I think that this class should be required by all of the students here at UNCW because it shows us the proper way to find articles on databases.  This class can also prevent more people from plagiarizing information that isn’t theirs. I also like the way the class is set up because it gives us time to interact with each other in the class by voicing our opinion on things we write on blogs and also on what we read in class.

Google’s Street View is one of the most amazing tools I have ever seen on the internet.  It lets users click on a city street and then see a panoramic photograph of the area.  The pictures are taken by 360-degree cameras mounted on a Volkswagen Beetles that cruise around town taking pictures.  After its release in May photographs of women and men appeared and privacy advocated complained that the Street View was invasive.  Since than Google is considering changes to its Street View Google Maps feature that would protect the privacy of those it photographs.  I believe that the privacy of people is important especially if it can be seen on the internet.  This is how people are stalked and killed.  As hard as it would be to stop people from taking pictures of others it will always continue because some people and companies just don’t listen.

A European official was excited about Google Inc. because an offer to cut by a quarter that time it retains data on its user’s searches.  They tried to say that the company is violating the EU privacy rules because they keep data for up to 24 months.  One of the major search leaders say that they will make the information available for 24 months.  EU received a letter from Google where the company said it would raise its data privacy standards for all users.  Google says that the data helps its search engine understand its users so it can deliver better results and advertisements.  Google was also demanded that they answer questions about the company storing and keeping information from the user.

This article was about an college student who attends the University of Georgetown who was assault because of a hate crime.  The victim was attacked on September 9 where he suffered minor cuts and bruises and also a broken thumb.  After the attack the victim began looking on Facebook to see if he could find the person that attacked him.  Once he found someone who looked like his attacker he contacted the police so they could develop a sketch of the suspect.  After his photo was submitted they worked together with the Georgetown University police to arrest this suspect.  As much as people talk bad about Facebook it has done an excellent job and brought a man to arrest for assault.  Many people say that Facebook is dangerous and I don’t completely agree with that just as long as you set your priorities safe enough so your identity will not be stolen or you will not be stalked.

Facebook is a global networking circle that began in 2004 which has more than 47 million members.  With this networking cite many people are being stalked, loosing identities and even killed.  For safe precaution measures Facebook reports that they will include a safety disclosure for parents and also a more efficient complaint process to report unsolicited sexual advances and inappropriate content.  When they started their investigation people started posing as underage users.  The investigators were solicited by adults on numerous occasions.  Facebook’s chief officer said the web site’s commitment to safety has slipped but said the company is getting back on track. 

 This article is related to class because it discusses how Facebook is becoming a site where people can have information stolen from them.  By posting information of where you work, live, and birth date is an easy way to have your information stolen because anyone can search your name on the web and get your information.  More fraudsters are starting to get on Facebook just to steal people’s information.  It is best now that people either get of Facebook or set their privacy so no one can see your profile except friends.
